This is the official HP Merab Ninidze Ninidse 1965 in Georgiens Hauptstadt Tiflis geboren, startete Merab Ninidze bereits mit 17 Jahren sein Schauspielstudium. Der Bürgerkrieg in Georgien veranlasste ihn, Anfang der 90er Jahre sein Heimatland zu verlassen und nach Wien überzusiedeln. Dort spielte er in seiner ersten westeuropäischen Produktion "Hasenjagd – Vor lauter Feigheit gibt es kein Erbarmen" (1994, Regie: Andreas Gruber) mit. Der georgische Regisseur Tengis Abuladse entdeckte ihn 1984 und besetzte Merab Ninidze für seine erste Kinorolle in "Die Reue". Die Produktion wurde zwei Jahre später bei den Internationalen Filmfestspielen in Cannes mit dem Spezialpreis der Jury ausgezeichnet. Merab Ninidze war von 1986 bis 1991 Mitglied des Ensembles des Georgischen National-Rustaweli Theaters in Tiflis. In Deutschland gehört der vielsprachige Schauspieler seit seiner Rolle als Emigrant Walter Redlich in dem Oscar-gekrönten Film "Nirgendwo in Afrika" (2001, Regie: Caroline Link) zu den viel gefragten Schauspielern, zuletzt unter anderem in "Die innere Stimme" (2004, Regie: Roland Suso Richter) und "Die Kirschenkönigin" (2004, Regie: Rainer Kaufmann). Zuvor stand Merab Ninidze für zahlreiche Kino-Produktionen wie "In Heaven" (1998, Regie Michael Bindlechner) und "England" (2000, Regie: Achim von Borries) vor der Kamera.
